It’s time to dress as the seasonal bearded one – not Noel Edmonds – and run for a good cause…

‘Tis the season to be jolly, fa la la la la, la la la la… but not so jolly that your training drowns in a sea of brandy butter, pastry and mulled wine.’ Okay, our adapted carol might not be realistic, but in the gluttonous build-up to Christmas, there’s still ample opportunity to get out there and train. And one of the most festively appropriate ways to do that is via a Santa Run…

Where Aireville Park, Skipton

When Sunday 29th November 2015

The Rotary Club of Skipton Craven organise this popular event with the main beneficiaries this year being Sue Ryder Manorlands, Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) and Yorkshire Cancer Research. The 5km route weaves its way around the canal and streets of Skipton before finishing back at the starting point of Aireville Park. Adult entry is £12.00 and £8.00 for children, and that includes a free Santa suit.

Where Roald Dahl Plass, Cardiff

When Sunday 6th December 2015

A 5km run, jog or walk around Mermaid Quay and Cardiff Bay awaits at the third running of this Santa Dash on behalf of the Hearts of Gold Christmas appeal, which raises much-needed funds to provide life-saving equipment to communities all over Wales. Apart from the warm glow of racing in a Santa outfit, you’ll earn a race t-shirt and certificate. Entry is £8.00 per individual or £24.00 for a family of four.

Where Saltford near Bristol

When Sunday 6th December 2015

The aim of the Saltford Santa Dash is to raise funds for local charities that serve the needs of young people. In 2015 this is Time2Share and Carers’ Centre. There’s a Mini Santa Dash for those aged five to 12 years old around a marked track; those older than 12 face a five-mile fun run around the back streets of Saltford. Entry is £5.00 and £12.00, respectively, and that includes a Santa outfit and a medal.

Where St James Square, Muswell Hill, London

When Saturday 12th December 2015

After a one-year hiatus, the Santa Dash returns. The aim? To raise funds for The London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy. There are two routes to choose from – 5km for adults; 2.5km for children – and entry fee is £15 and £10, respectively (under fives race free). Get into the festive swing by wearing your own Santa outfit, though Santa hats are handed out at pre-race registration. The LCCCP suggest a fundraising target of £80 and all entrants receive a medal.

Where Old Trafford, Manchester

When Sunday 13th December 2015

Join footballing legend – and one of the finest full-backs to grace the game – Denis Irwin for the Manchester United Foundation’s ninth annual Santa Run. Runners of the 5km distance will charge down Sir Alex Ferguson Way before lapping up the sights of the Imperial War Museum, The Lowry and MediaCityUK. The 2km fun runners head down United Road with all runners finishing in the ‘Theatre of Dreams’. Entrance £15.00 for adults; children £5.00; family of four £30.00.
